Top 2 Fall Wine Cocktails

Aug 22, 2024

There’s no sense ignoring it anymore. It’s definitely sweater weather here in Spokane and we are fully embracing that chill in the air along with festive drinks you can make from home. Snag these simple ingredients and our recommended bottles of wine to concoct a few amazing cocktails that will get you in the fall mood!

Mulled Wine

  • 1 bottle bold red wine (like Mike’s Reserve Red)
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 tbsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

In a medium-size pot, toss in the cider, oranges, ground cloves, and cinnamon. Simmer for about 10 minutes over medium-low heat. Turn heat off, and let the mixture steep for an hour. After an hour, pour the entire bottle of wine into the pot. Simmer over low heat for about 10 minutes. Serve in mugs for you and five of your friends, add an orange slice as a garnish!

The Bishop Cocktail

There’s a lot of recipes out there to make a Bishop Cocktail. Most are a compilation of red wine and fruit punch that is like a simplified sangria. While this is nice, I like the classic cocktail version. The recipe I like comes from the 1935 printing of “The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book” by A.S. Crockett.

  • 3-oz rum
  • 1-oz red wine (I recommend choosing a red wine you also like to drink by itself, so I use my favorite: Tempranillo)
  • 1 tsp simple syrup
  • ½ tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled red wine glass. Enjoy!

Cheers to Fall!
