
This month, we’re highlighting our 2018 Chardonnay but, if I’m honest, Chardonnay has never been my favorite variety. I know what a good Chardonnay tastes like but, it’s not my first choice to drink. All this changed for me when we started harvesting our Chardonnay from a new location in 2012, Familigia Vineyards. This is the same vineyard that we’ve been sourcing our Riesling, Chenin Blanc, and Semilon, for the past 30 years. The grapes from this vineyard always burst with spectacular fruit flavors, and our Chardonnay is no exception. From the moment I had my first sip, I knew I would never switch to a never vineyard. What’s special about our Chardonnay is that we don’t “over-oak” our blend, which allows you to taste the fruit first before the oak. Now, that is what makes a Chardonnay serendipitous. If I do say so myself, our 2018 Chardonnay is one of the best Chardonnay’s we’ve ever made and I now choose this variety regularly!
When you try our Chardonnay, you’ll notice that the wine opens up with aromas of lemon, golden apple, and a buttery taste. The rich and creamy flavors of mango and pineapple mingled with soft oak will tantalize your taste buds. Lemon and mineral nuances will linger. A partial malolactic fermentation and 3 months in French oak provide a smooth, velvety, and lightly toasted finish. As we take our first steps into summer this is a wine you’ll want to have on hand.
