April Wine of the Month

Aug 21, 2024

Our wine of the month for April is, drum roll please… the 2019 Pinot Gris! We are so excited to have this new release as our wine of the month. The Pinot Gris is here just in time for Spring. This wine has aromas of grapefruit, sweet grass, and papaya that overwhelm your nose, but once on your tongue, this off-dry wine bursts with flavors of papaya and lime, while spice and a smooth minerality linger. The flavor finishes all crisp leaving you refreshed and only wanting more!

Now for a little back story on this special wine. We began producing a Pinot Gris in 2008 for my mom, Ellena. She loved Pinot Gris so much and would buy this wine on most trips to the grocery store. So, my dad and I met with our grape grower in Quincy to see if he had any Pinot Gris grapes available for us to try. We made a small amount with 2008 vintage and have continued making this wine ever since! A few years ago we made a change to one of the most highly touted vineyards in the state, DenHoed Vineyard located in Yakima Valley. One thing that is unique to Pinot Gris grapes is when the grapes ripen, their color turns into a blush pink. Most of the time this slight blush color falls out of the wine during fermentation and cold-stabilization but, for the 2018 and 2019 vintage, the slight pink hues remained! It is a beautiful light peach color, reminiscent of a golden sunset. I am so excited for this release, in fact, I’ve already “quality-control-tested” several bottles! I promise you’ll love it as much as I do!

Cheers,
Natalie
