4 Non-Traditional Thanksgiving Dishes

Aug 22, 2024

This Thanksgiving, break tradition by changing up your menu. Don’t get me wrong, I love traditional Thanksgiving food dishes but, the same dishes every year can get old. Thankfully for our family, we have amazing cooks, like my mom who always has delicious ways to switch things up. The following dishes are recipes by Ellena that will provide you with some new Thanksgiving dinner inspiration including an appetizer, a fall salad, a side, and a dessert.

Appetizer

Merlot Figs with Gorgonzola

Every great Thanksgiving meal begins with great appetizers. When you really want to impress your guests, serve Merlot Figs with Gorgonzola. The flavors of fig and gorgonzola alone are amazing but, together they’re out of this world! The two flavors are the perfect complimentary pair.

Side

Green Beans with Sesame Vinaigrette

Most Thanksgiving meals have some sort of green beans, so this side isn’t too far-fetched. Rather, it’s a different take on a popular side dish. Try my mom’s Green Beans with Sesame Vinaigrette. This dish can be served cold, or heat them up prior to serving. To really wow your guests, you can have our Riesling as a lovely wine pairing.

Salad

Fall Squash Apple Salad

I always love a good salad side dish to the variety at Thanksgiving dinner. What better salad to serve than something seasonal? I recommend the Fall Squash & Apple Salad. This recipe has two different kinds of squash and of course wine!

Dessert

Pears in Red Wine

If you’re tired of pie for dessert at Thanksgiving, this pear recipe is a lovely alternative. Not only is it super easy to prepare, but it looks incredible when served! You will look like a gourmet chef!

Happy Thanksgiving!
