Whether it be one of Latah Creek’s small lot creations of 50 cases, or one of their largest productions of nearly 1000 cases, Latah Creek has red wine covered – ranging from wonderfully fruity varieties that are utterly delicious by themselves, to big, bold, and tannic reserve reds that really shine when accompanying a meal. All are marvelous to drink right now, but don’t hesitate to cellar a few for 5-10 years for a real treat. Because Latah Creek has such wonderful relationships with their grape growers, Mike and Natalie are able to change up their wine list every now and then. They still make their award-winning Merlot, but have been able to put their food-friendly/easy drinkability winemaking techniques to various trend varieties, their favorites being Sangiovese and Malbec.

Mike Conway’s winemaking style brought instant success to his and Ellena’s winery. Wines from his first vintage of 1982 saw many Best of Show winners – a feat never before done. His achievement was immediate, making him one of the forefront winemakers in Washington State. His technique of slow-cold fermentation was a first for Washington, allowing his wines to be one-of-a-kind. The success continues for Latah Creek and their whites. In 2014 alone, Latah Creek received 2 Best of Class awards, 5 Double Gold medals, and 4 Gold medals for various whites. Mike’s, and now along side him daughter Natalie, attention to balance and acidity creates a clean, fresh finish in all wines. You can’t have just one sip.

The idea was to expose Natalie to all aspects of winemaking in her apprentice-style learning from her dad. With great sources of hard-to-find grape varieties, Mike and Natalie set a course to bring wine drinkers amazing, big and bold red wines, still at a reasonable price. Not going over $40 bottle, they created a following of people who flock when these wines become available. Hoping for at least a year supply, Latah Creek continues to sell-out of these wines in less than 6 months.
Expect wines that are fuller-bodied, have richer tannins, and a higher alcohol content than their others reds. These wines are absolutely delectable now, or will cellar easily for an additional 5-15 years.
