It’s no secret that too much wine isn’t exactly going to help us work toward our New Year’s resolution to fit into those old jeans. But that doesn’t mean you have to quit cold turkey! (After all, cutting out wine doesn’t make you live longer, it just makes every day *feel* a little longer, can we get an amen?!) Here’s a cheat sheet to help you drink smarter this year. Two things to consider when choosing your wine are the calories per serving, as well as the calories specifically from sugar.

Light Alcohol Sweet Whites

Examples: Riesling, Veltiner, Chenin Blanc, Muscat

ABV: 9-11%

Calories per 6 oz serving: 111-147

Sugar calories per serving: about 40

High Alcohol Sweet Whites

Examples: Silvaner, Malvasia

ABV: 9-12%

Calories per 6 oz serving: 177-213

Sugar calories per serving: about 70

Light Alcohol Dry Whites

Examples: Pinot Gris/Grigio, Pinot Blanc, Vermentino

ABV: 9-12%

Calories per 6 oz serving: 107-143

Sugar calories per serving: about 0-20

High Alcohol Dry Whites

Examples: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier

ABV: 12-14%

Calories per 6 oz serving: 153-173

Sugar calories per serving: about 0-13

Light Alcohol Reds

Examples: Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Barbera (any dry red with less than 13.5% ABV)

ABV: 11-13.5%
